The Department of History at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Basra, in cooperation with the Al-Zakawat Foundation for Culture and Thought, organized the Fourth International Scientific Conference entitled "Historical Research in the Digital Age." The conference was attended by the Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs, Ayman Saleh Naama, the Dean of the College, Wissam Jumaa Lafteh, and a large number of researchers and academics from within Iraq and abroad.
The conference aimed to highlight the transformations taking place in historical research in light of digital development and to demonstrate the impact of modern technologies on developing scientific research tools and expanding the horizons of historical studies.
The conference, which included the participation of more than 100 researchers from within Iraq and abroad, featured several scientific sessions addressing issues of historical research and mechanisms for employing digital technologies in studying historical sources.
Dr. Ayman Saleh Naama emphasized the importance of historical research in the digital age, stressing that technological advancements have contributed to providing vast sources of knowledge and have facilitated access to historical documents and their analysis using modern scientific methods. For his part, Dr. Wissam Jumaa Lafteh emphasized the important role played by researchers and academic institutions in developing historical studies, noting the college's commitment to supporting scholarly activities that contribute to enhancing scientific research and keeping pace with contemporary knowledge transformations.
Meanwhile, the conference's general coordinator, Dr. Nidal Muhammad Qambar, highlighted the most prominent research topics presented at the conference, which ranged from studies in Islamic, modern, and contemporary history to research addressing the use of digital technologies in analyzing historical sources.
Wissam Ahmed Al-Mutairi, head of the conference's preparatory committee and president of the Al-Zakawat Foundation for Culture and Thought, stated that the conference saw the participation of more than 100 researchers from various historical disciplines, representing a number of universities and academic institutions both within and outside Iraq
