A master's thesis at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Basrah, examined the impact of Total Quality Management on the logistical performance of Iraqi ports, using information technology as a moderating variable. The study focused on Umm Qasr Port.

The thesis, submitted by student Salam Mohammed Khalaf, aimed to improve logistical performance in transportation, storage, loading, unloading, customs clearance, and maritime pilotage operations.

The thesis highlighted Iraqi ports in general, and Umm Qasr Port in particular, given its active and influential role in the Iraqi economy. Improving and enhancing the logistical performance of port activities and operations requires modern and advanced management that provides high-quality logistical services to keep pace with rapid developments in a dynamic, complex, and unstable competitive environment.

The thesis concluded that implementing Total quality management is a pivotal strategic approach to improving logistical performance in Iraqi ports. As an integrated management framework, TQM contributes to increasing the efficiency of operational processes within the port, improving the flow of goods, and enhancing the accuracy of processes related to supply and distribution chains.
