The Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Basra, in cooperation with the Basra Education Directorate, organized an intensive training course for new counselors, with the participation of several specialists and students of educational studies.
The course aimed to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical field experience, and to prepare competent educational counselors capable of managing the counseling process using modern scientific tools.
The course, led by several faculty members from the department, covered several topics, including mechanisms for developing professional programs, crisis counseling strategies for rapid intervention, and behavior modification plans to transform negative patterns into positive ones. It also emphasized utilizing group dynamics and mutual support to achieve therapeutic goals in a short time.
The course also addressed listening and interaction skills, the use of purposeful silence, techniques for reflecting content and feelings, and skills in confrontation, interpretation, and suggestion to achieve insight in the client
