The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (Molecular Investigation of Some Toxin Genes in Pseudomonas Species Isolates from Clinical Samples) by the graduate student Adyan Kareem Abd.
The study aims to isolate and identify Pseudomonas spp. from clinical samples, investigate their antibiotic sensitivity patterns, and perform a molecular investigation of toxin ( (exoS, toxA) and toxin-antitoxin system genes to determine their relation with antibiotic resistance patterns. The study included phenotypic and genotypic identification of isolates, revealing an alarming rate of multidrug resistance (MDR) reaching 100% in burn isolates, along with a remarkably high prevalence of virulence and persistence genes. The study recommended that routine and strict antibiotic susceptibility testing must be performed before prescribing treatments, especially for burn patients, alongside implementing strict infection control policies and continuous sterilization protocols in hospital wards
