A doctoral dissertation at the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basra examined the role of air transport at Basra International Airport in economic development.
The dissertation, submitted by doctoral candidate Ali Jumaa Fadhil, aims to demonstrate the role of air transport in economic development by reviewing the volume of air exports and imports and the resulting economic effects on employment, revenue, investment, the labor market, tourism, tax collection, and other areas.
The dissertation also included an analysis of the current and future role of air transport at Basra International Airport in job creation, investment, the labor market, air tourism, and taxation. It further highlighted the contribution of this vital sector to the volume of various air exports, given Basra Governorate's role as the gateway to the world. The dissertation also explored the potential for utilizing this vital sector to increase financial revenues, which contribute to supporting the Iraqi federal budget through the direct and indirect revenues it generates, as it is the only economic and commercial gateway in southern Iraq
