The College of Education for Humanities Organizes a Scientific Seminar on Women's Rights in the Ja'fari Code
The Women's Affairs Unit at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Basra, in cooperation with the Human Rights Unit, organized a scientific seminar entitled "The Ja'fari Code in Light of Women's Rights, Human Rights, and International Standards." The seminar was attended by Dr. Wissam Jumaa Lafteh, Dean of the College, and faculty members.
The seminar aimed to highlight the legal and religious rights guaranteed to women by Ja'fari jurisprudence and the Iraqi Personal Status Law.
The seminar, moderated by several female faculty members, covered several topics, including women's rights before marriage and engagement, choosing a life partner and the prohibition of coercion, as well as the conditions of a marriage contract based on mutual consent.
The seminar also discussed women's financial rights, such as dowry, maintenance, financial independence, managing their own money, and legal housing. It further addressed the rulings on divorce, the waiting period ('iddah), child custody, alimony after divorce, and inheritance laws according to the Ja'fari Code.
