The Date Palm Research Center at the University of Basrah organized a field visit to one of the date palm orchards in Al-Dair District / Umm Masjid Village to assess the agricultural situation and diagnose insect infestations affecting date palm trees.
During the visit, Prof. Khayoun Ali Mohsen examined an infestation of date palm fruits by the Humaira insect, where the condition was diagnosed in the field and the damage caused by this pest to fruit quality was explained.
The visit also included providing a number of technical recommendations and guidance to the farmer regarding the use of appropriate pesticides and the adoption of approved scientific methods to limit the spread of the infestation and preserve date palm production.
This visit comes as part of the efforts of the Date Palm Research Center to follow up on agricultural problems in the field and provide scientific and advisory support to farmers, contributing to the development of the date palm sector in Basrah Governorate.
