The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar (Assessment of some Biomarkers and Proteoglycan Analysis in Diabetic Patients with TrichomonasVaginalis Infection) by the graduate student Zainab Jameel Abd-Almajeed The study aims to investigate the effects of Trichomonas vaginalis infection and type 2 diabetes mellitus on selected hormonal, inflammatory, metabolic, and proteoglycan biomarkers, and to evaluate their interactions across different age groups. and included 128 women distributed into four groups: diabetic patients with T. vaginalis infection, patients with T. vaginalis infection only, diabetic patients only, and healthy controls. Laboratory diagnosis was performed using wet mount, Giemsa stain, Trichrome stain, rapid antigen test, and biochemical assessment of HbA1c, cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, IL-1β, IL-17A, betatrophin, and syndecan-1. and the study was recommended to expand future investigations by including additional immunological and biochemical biomarkers and conducting longitudinal studies to clarify the causal relationships between T. vaginalis infection and metabolic and inflammatory alterations.
