The thesis, submitted by student Alaa Jawad Abdul Kadhim Matar, aimed to elucidate Sayyid al-Khoei's methodology in addressing conflicting narrators' circumstances in his book, "The Biographical Dictionary of Hadith Narrators." It sought to uncover the principles and rules of biographical evaluation he employed in resolving conflicting accounts, as well as to highlight his practical applications in addressing instances of conflicting narrators.
The thesis comprised three main chapters. The first chapter, entitled "Sayyid al-Khoei and His Book, 'The Biographical Dictionary of Hadith Narrators,'" provided an introduction to Sayyid al-Khoei, his scholarly biography, and his intellectual contributions. It also introduced the book "The Biographical Dictionary of Hadith Narrators," outlining its sources, significance, and scholarly standing within biographical studies. The second chapter, titled "Sayyid al-Khu'i's Methodology in Addressing Conflicting Narrations," explored the concept and forms of conflicting narrators' circumstances, the general principles employed in resolving such conflicts, and the influence of experience and conjecture on the emergence of differences among the opinions of hadith scholars.
The third chapter, titled "Mechanisms and Applications of Resolving Conflicts in the Biographical Dictionary of Hadith Narrators: An Applied Study," focused on explaining the mechanisms Sayyid al-Khu'i adopted in weighing conflicting narrations and examining applied examples from his book, "The Biographical Dictionary of Hadith Narrators," to reveal his practical methodology in addressing conflicting narrations.
The dissertation concluded with a summary of the study's key findings, along with several recommendations and suggestions related to the research topic.
