The study, published in the journal Physics and Chemistry of the Earth, classified among the scopes Q1 and sitescore 6.0 reservoirs, showed that the Mesopotamian Basin in Iraq represents an area affected by significant recent tectonic activity, and this is shown by distinctive terrain features.
The aim of this study is to evaluate morphotectonic activity in the area of the interfluve basin by analyzing alluvial fans formed on the northeastern and southwestern edges. Tectonic activity can influence the evolution of the Earth's surface shapes, which is crucial for mineral exploration and resource assessment.
