A master's thesis in the Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, explored the use of green coagulants in removing certain pigments from wastewater.
The thesis, submitted by student Zahraa Aqeel Issa, aimed to extract natural coagulants from some local plants and algae and evaluate their efficiency in removing turbidity, color, and suspended solids from hospital wastewater, with the goal of finding safe and environmentally friendly alternatives.
The thesis involved extracting the coagulants and then selecting the optimal choice for achieving the best initial results. This was then applied to wastewater using RSM software.
The thesis recommended applying the extracted coagulants in treating polluted water as an alternative to chemical coagulants, given that they are natural, biodegradable, non-toxic materials that can be disposed of later or used as plant fertilizers for agriculture.
