University of Basrah holds a postgraduate research conference for the Bio- Medical Group
The College of Medicine, University of Basrah organized the first conference for postgraduate students of the Faculties of Medical Sciences (Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Science, and Pharmacy).
The establishment of this conference is one of the goals of University of Basrah and its strategies to make international scientific relation through cooperation with arab and foreign universities. This variety of conferences is considered as the first in Iraq and it is the product of coordination with the Kings' College London (KCL), represented by Dr. Munther Al-Kadhimi, as more than 85 papers and abstracts of postgraduate students' thesis of the above-mentioned faculties were submitted to the scientific committee, of which 21 were selected as long articles and 21 as short articles as well as 12 posters with scientific discussions regarding their contents were carried out by the attendees in the presence of the students.
Prizes were set by Dr. Munther Al-Kadhimi for the winning research, which is the free one year membership of the British Society for Immunology. The application forms were sent by Dr.Al-Kadhimi
The conference came out with several recommendations, including the necessity to continue to hold the conference annually and regularly, similar to the KCL, and to circulate it to the university as a whole and according specialization. As well as establishing a center to supervise student projects at the university.
It is worthy to mention that the conference was held, as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, in a hybrid manner, i.e. in attendance and virtually, to reduce the overcrowdness inside the hall and to provide the opportunity for professors from outside and inside Iraq ( from other governorates) to participate
