A Master's Thesis at the University of Basra Examines the Spatial Analysis of the Thermostone Industry in Basra Governorate: A Study in Industrial Geography
This Master's thesis, submitted to the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basra, by student Maryam Majid Kadhim, aims to: Analyze the spatial analysis of the thermostone industry in Basra Governorate by examining the concept of the thermostone industry and its historical development; identify the impact of natural and human factors on the establishment and development of the thermostone industry in the governorate; highlight the problems facing the thermostone industry and propose appropriate solutions; and study the future of the thermostone industry in Basra Governorate in light of urban expansion and the increasing demand for building materials. The study, by its very nature, was divided into four main chapters, in addition to an introduction and a conclusion summarizing the most important findings and recommendations. The chapters were as follows:
The first chapter focused on the concept of the thermistostone industry and its historical development in Basra Governorate. The second chapter examined the geographical factors influencing the thermistostone industry in Basra Governorate. The third chapter classified and distributed thermistostone manufacturing facilities and outlined the stages of the industrial process. The fourth chapter addressed the problems facing the thermistostone industry, proposed solutions, and future prospects. The study reached a number of conclusions and recommendations, the most important of which was the concentration of these facilities in only two districts: Abu Al-Khasib and Al-Zubair. The study recommended supporting this industrial activity by improving infrastructure, providing a stable electricity supply, and offering banking facilities and loans to owners of industrial facilities. This would contribute to the development of the thermistostone industry and enhance its role in the economic development of Basra Governorate.
