A doctoral dissertation at the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basra explored the topic of "The Foundations of Grammatical Interpretation in the Commentaries on Al-Mutanabbi's Diwan."
The dissertation, submitted by student Ali Saad Ghaleb, aimed to study the foundations adopted by the commentators on Al-Mutanabbi's Diwan in interpreting grammatical phenomena, clarifying the aspects of parsing and linguistic interpretation of his verses, revealing the grammatical methodologies of the commentators in dealing with Al-Mutanabbi's poetry, and explaining their principles of interpretation and parsing. It also examined the grammatical justifications upon which the commentators relied in interpreting the poetic structures.
The dissertation included a study of the methodology of the commentators on Al-Mutanabbi's Diwan in grammatical interpretation, their tools in interpreting the poetic structures, and the grammatical foundations upon which their commentaries were built.
