Prof. Khayoun Ali Mohsen, a faculty member at the Date Palm Research Center, University of Basrah, participated as a member of the examination committee for the Master's thesis submitted by Nidal Abadi Hussein, a student in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering, College of Agriculture, University of Basrah.
The thesis investigated the effects of culture medium type, the plant growth regulator zeatin, and vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) on the growth of hybrid banana plants using plant tissue culture techniques, with the aim of improving plant growth characteristics and enhancing tissue propagation.
The study compared the efficiency of different culture media and examined the effects of various concentrations of the growth regulator and vitamin on shoot formation, shoot elongation, and root development. It also included the identification of bioactive compounds using gas chromatography (GC) and infrared spectroscopy (IR) techniques.
The thesis was approved with a grade of "Very Good," in recognition of the scientific effort invested and the valuable findings achieved in the field of tissue culture propagation and the improvement of banana plant quality.
