A Master's Thesis at the University of Basra Examines (Safwan District: A Study in Regional Geography)
A Master's thesis at the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basra examined (Safwan District: A Study in Regional Geography). The thesis, submitted by student Zainab Khader Hussein Jahan, aimed to provide a comprehensive and detailed overview of the geography of Safwan District, including its natural, human, and economic characteristics. It also sought to determine the extent to which Safwan District can benefit from its diverse geographical features, which form a foundation for any development initiatives. Furthermore, the thesis aimed to identify the current state of development in the district across all sectors and to investigate the problems arising from the district's characteristics in order to pinpoint the most significant obstacles and limitations to its current and future development. The thesis comprised five main chapters, in addition to an introduction and conclusion summarizing the most important findings and recommendations. The chapters of the study were as follows:
The first chapter focused on studying and analyzing the natural characteristics of Safwan District. The second chapter addressed the analysis of human characteristics, specifically the demographic characteristics of Safwan District, starting with population growth from 1997 to 2025, its distribution according to administrative units, and their density and composition. The third chapter examined agricultural activity, both plant and animal, and its distribution according to the administrative units within the district for the 2024-2025 agricultural season. The fourth chapter discussed industrial activity in Safwan District according to the administrative units within the district. The fifth chapter addressed infrastructure services as well as community services in the district. The study concluded with a set of findings and recommendations.
