A PhD dissertation at the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basra examined (The cartographic representation of housing sprawl and its impact on infrastructure services in Al-Zubair city using modern geographic techniques). The dissertation, submitted by student Hussein Ali Abdul Mazloum, aimed to study and measure the rate of housing sprawl in Al-Zubair city and determine its spatial distribution. It employed modern geographic techniques to identify this distribution and its nature, uncover the factors contributing to its growth, assess its impact on infrastructure services, and determine the resulting increase. The dissertation included a cartographic representation of the housing sprawl phenomenon and its repercussions on basic services using spatial analysis methods and modern geographic techniques. It identified functional and urban dimensions and assessed the resulting pressure. The study concluded by determining the dimensions of the encroachment on infrastructure services (potable water, electricity, municipal services) resulting from the unplanned expansion of housing sprawl, and presented a model. My maps are comprehensive and identify hotspot areas that require urban intervention to alleviate the pressure on them.
