The thesis presented by the researcher (Naim Ashour Hatem) aims to employ the figurative Arabic calligraphy compositions in reviving the heritage of the city of Basra by creating sculptural works that achieve this.
The thesis included a study of the concept of using these formations to revive heritage as a formative structure that possesses high flexibility and voluntariness in three-dimensional formation, transcending the boundaries of legible linguistic semantics towards a broader semiotic and conceptual space.
The thesis concluded that the transformation of the instrumental function of heritage materials and ready-made materials into independent aesthetic and expressive values overflowing with significance through the use of daily life elements associated with the environment of Basra and its social history and turning them into building pillars bearing symbolic dimensions.
