The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah has successfully defended a Master's thesis entitled:
"Serum Expression of CCN6, VEGF-A, and NF-κB p65 and Their Histopathological Associations in Breast Cancer as Potential Diagnostic and Prognostic Biomarkers: A Case-Control Study"
The thesis, presented by student Marwa Munthir Homan, comprised a retrospective analytical case-control study conducted at the Oncology Centre of Al-Sadr Teaching Hospital in Basrah Governorate. The study enrolled 180 women divided into untreated breast cancer patients, treated breast cancer patients, and a healthy control group. It also involved the collection of demographic, clinical, and histopathological data, alongside statistical analysis to determine correlations and the diagnostic and predictive characteristics of the investigated biomarkers.
The study aimed to simultaneously measure serum expression levels of CCN6, VEGF-A, and NF-κB p65 in breast cancer patients, and to investigate their diagnostic and prognostic values alongside their associations with clinicopathological features, while comparing their diagnostic performance against the conventional tumour marker (CA 15-3). The ultimate goal was to enhance the accuracy of early diagnosis and tumour staging assessment by integrating novel molecular biomarkers into routine clinical practice, and to support more personalised clinical management of breast cancer patients by elucidating tumour progression mechanisms and treatment response.
