A master's thesis at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Basrah, examined "The Effect of the Problem-Free Talk Approach on Developing Motivational Perseverance among Secondary School Students." The thesis was presented by student Ali Mohsen Khalaf under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Batoul Banay Al-Zubairi.
The study aimed to investigate the impact of the "Problem-Free Talk" approach on fostering motivational perseverance in secondary school students. The researcher adopted an experimental design, deemed suitable for the study's nature and objectives. Procedures included translating the motivational perseverance scale into Arabic, verifying its psychometric properties, and developing a counseling program based on the Problem-Free Talk approach. This program consisted of 17 counseling sessions, conducted three times a week (Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays), and was subsequently administered to a sample of secondary school students. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS (version 27) statistical software package.
The study yielded several key findings: no statistically significant differences were found between the pre-test and post-test scores of the control group; conversely, statistically significant differences appeared between the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental group, favoring the post-test; and statistically significant differences were observed between the experimental and control groups in the post-test, favoring the experimental group. We conclude from this that the "problem-free conversation" approach is effective in fostering motivational persistence among high school students, as it creates a counseling environment that helps counselees discover their strengths and personal resources, construct clear descriptions of a preferred future, and strengthen confidence in their own abilities to persist in achieving their goals
