The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basra successfully defended a Master's thesis entitled:
"Preparation and Evaluation of Anticancer Activity of Molecular Candidates as Potential Inhibitors of Cyclin-Dependent Kinases (CDKs) as Antiproliferative Agents In Vitro"
The thesis presented by student Hakim Kadhim Al-Hashimi involved the design and synthesis of ten novel compounds based on benzoxazinone and heterocyclic scaffolds. The compounds were prepared via nucleophilic aromatic substitution and cyclization reactions, and their structures were confirmed by mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Anticancer activity was evaluated using the MTT assay against the A549 lung cancer cell line.
The study aimed to design and synthesize ten novel benzoxazinone and nicotinamide derivatives, evaluate their antiproliferative activity against A549 lung cancer cells, and investigate their molecular docking interactions with CDK2, while computationally predicting their pharmacokinetic properties. The study contributes to expanding therapeutic options for cancer treatment by introducing structurally promising new compounds, paving the way for the development of more selective and less toxic CDK2 inhibitors, and presenting an integrated model linking chemical design with biological and computational evaluation.
