The master's thesis in the College of Pharmacy at University of Basrah discussed (Manufacture of co-drug introductions for Secnidazole and Ciprofloxacin and the study of their physical and chemical properties) by researcher Marwa Walid Khaled The dissertation included linking secnidazole and ciprofloxacin as co-drug introducers in the form of ester and amine for the purpose of obtaining antibiotics of a broad spectrum of efficacy by working on aerobic and anaerobic bacteria and conferring the benefit of manufacturing drug precursors to solve the problems of secnidazole and ciprofloxacin and for the purpose of administering them in single dose form to improve patient compliance. Confirming the structures of the compounds prepared by analytical and diagnostic methods, as they were compared with the original medicines in terms of partition coefficient, solubility, palatability, and antibacterial activity. The results of this study showed that the manufacture of drug precursors produced an improvement in the unwanted physical and chemical properties of the original drugs, and the solubility of the prepared compounds was much better than the solubility of ciprofloxacin as a base. Also, the drug introductions showed improvement in the antibacterial activities against all the tested bacterial strains, in contrast to the physical mixture of secnidazole with ciprofloxacin it does not decrease or increase the effectiveness of ciprofloxacin. The study of chemical hydrolysis of compounds prepared at pH values mimicking gastric and intestinal fluids indicated that these compounds pass without dissolution through the stomach and produce sufficient stability to be absorbed from the intestine.
