A master's thesis in the College of Agriculture at Basra University discussed the effect of nitrogen fertilizer and planting dates on the growth and yield of quinoa.
The researcher's thesis, Wissam Abd al-Ilah Jaber, included the study of four levels of nitrogen fertilizer 0, 60, 120 and 180 kg N.ha¬1 with four planting dates for the crop of Quinoa. The results of the experiment concluded that the level 180 kg N.ha-1 at the first planting date (first of October) was significantly superior in most of the studied traits and gave the highest average for seed yield and the highest average for total protein yield.The thesis aims to study the effect of four levels of nitrogen fertilizer with four planting dates for the quinoa crop.
The study recommended planting the quinoa crop in different regions of the southern region, as well as the Basra , with an early date not later than fist of September. With fertilization levels greater than 180 kg N ha-1. It is also possible to conduct future experiments using new varieties of quinoa with different planting dates, and higher fertilizers level than those used in this study. With many locations in Basra and other location along the Iraq, to find out the qualitative and quantitative effect of Quinoa.
