President of the university, Dr. Saad Shahin Hammadi, with a consultative group visited Safwan district as a strategy to serve Basrah community
The purpose behind the visit is to examine water situation and problems in the area and to try to find the suitable solutions for these problems
They came to an agreement with the area officials on working on three main domains: water, agriculture and desertification
They also agreed with the head of Groundwater Authority on drilling 50 artesian wells with an energy of 1500 m³/h in order to provide the desalination plants with water to solve the problem of potable water shortage
It is worth mentioning that the specialists in the university decided to take it upon their selves to study the proposed projects and to give consultations and solutions to serve the public and reflect the role of the university in such domains
