The College of Pharmacy at Basra University organized a scientific symposium entitled (Medicines in the month of Ramadan from a pharmaceutical point of view) with the participation of researchers and specialists. The symposium included lectures given by lecturers in the field of pharmacology, including Dr. Mohammad Sattar, who discussed in his lecture the oral drug delivery and the desired benefits of this treatment method, also reviewed some examples of drugs available in pharmacies that reach the body through the oral membrane (either in the sublingual area or in the area Buccal) and the treatment is released inside the mouth to penetrate the oral membrane and reach the blood circulation without reaching the rest of the digestive system, sublingual angised pills, nicotine gum, and fentanyl excipients. As for Dr. Ahmed Negim, he explained through his lecture several axes about drug delivery through the nose and lungs, including a general introduction about the importance of this delivery in giving a local drug effect to treat diseases related to the nose or lungs, such as allergies and sinus congestion, or treating diseases related to the body's systems in a manner similar to intravenous injection and muscle, as he talked about the type of drugs given in these entrances in terms of their physical shape, components, and method of administration in a way that prevents leakage of the drug outside the nose or lungs, as there are instructions for the correct method of use installed in the instruction sheet attached to each medicine. Dr. Gubran Hassan explained through his lecture, the factors affecting the patient's health during fasting, methods and how to modify the patient's treatment regimen during fasting, the types of patients allowed to fast, how the treatment is used for them during fasting, as well as clarified some common diseases and how to modify the treatment regimen for patients who suffer from these diseases during fasting.The symposium aimed to focus on some unclear medicinal forms of a large proportion of fasting patients in terms of their access to the digestive system or not, and to explain some details of the drugs administered orally, the nose, and lungs. In addition to focusing on the medicines used in common diseases and appropriate alternatives to them.
