University of Basrah sponsored an expanded crisis unit meeting with the departments concerned in water situation in southwest of Basrah. It aimed at highlighting problems and obstacles in water situation from which the citizens of these areas suffered for along time
This meeting was attended by all of: the governorator assistant for municipalities affairs, the governorator assistant for social affairs, Al Zubair district administrator, Safwan district administrator, Umm Qasr district administrator, as well as the representative of Imam Hussein Holy Shrine, the manager of water department, the manager of the commission for groundwater, the manger of the Iraqi drilling company, the manager of agriculture department, a representative of the Iraqi ports company and other concerned officials
The solutions put forward were discussed and a plan of action was prepared to implement these solutions urgently
They agreed on some important recommendations and a coordinating group was formed to present effective solutions
From his side the president of the university of Basrah, Dr. Saad Shahin Hammadi, said that the university is seeking to come up with strategic solutions to solve these problems and obstacles with support from competent authorities to help the citizens of the area
He added that the university suggested three types of solutions, some are instant solutions and others are average or long-term solutions and they will begin working urgently on the instant solutions
It is worth mentioning that one of these solutions is to drill wells and to maintain the purification plants in southwest of Basrah
