A research team, consists of Asst. Prof Dr. Aqeel Hadi Abdul-Wahid and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Youssef Lafta at the College of Agriculture at University of Basrah, managed to register six genes in the NCBI genetic information bank
It was found that the discovered genes are closely related to gender determination in date palms by adopting SNP indicators techniques, which are among the most promising modern indicators in finding genetic differences at the level of nucleotides
It is worth noting that these genes have an effective role in identifying gender in date palms, since determining the gender before the fruiting stage in the date palm is difficult and impossible even for some specialists and experts in date palm cultivation
