
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Nabil Kazem Abdul-Saheb, greeted the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. Walid Mohamed Ismail, and called for opening a cultural attaché in Cairo
During the meeting, which was attended by the Director-General of the Scholarships and Cultural Relations Department, the Minister of Higher Education welcomed the ambassador and his accompanying delegation, expressing his hope for further development of relations between Baghdad and Cairo in all fields, especially in scientific and academic fields
He stressed on the importance of increasing cultural exchange through scholarships, indicating the willingness of the Iraqi universities to provide scholarships for the Egyptian students in various specializations suggesting that these scholarships should be in the rare specializations, activate joint supervision in postgraduate studies, promote the twinning of universities and provide post-doctoral research scholarships. He called again for opening an Iraqi cultural attaché in Cairo to follow up on student affairs and facilitate enrollment procedures in Egyptian universities which host no small number of Iraqi students
For his side, the Ambassador stressed on working to overcome obstacles facing Iraqi students studying in Egypt and facilitate visa and residency procedures, pointing out that he agreed with the opinion of the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on the need to review the contexts in this field and develop the cooperation environment between the two brotherly countries
