Basra University organizes a panel discussion on the world of fiction literature in English language classes.
The Department of English at the College of Education for Human Sciences at the University of Basra organized on Wednesday 16/6/2021 an electronic panel discussion entitled “An expedition in the fictional world: How to use fiction in the classrooms of teaching English as a foreign language at the university level.”

The seminar, which was attended by (Professor Dr. Majid Hamid Jassim), aims to shed light on how to teach the short story material and invest it in developing English language skills.
The discussion above dealt with how to employ the short story in teaching English as a foreign language at the university level by developing listening, speaking, reading, speaking and critical thinking skills.
In order to develop these skills in an enjoyable way without preoccupying students with grammar exercises and what accompanies them, this is through the techniques of using the critical essay in an effective and effective manner.
When writing the critical essay, students seek to think, analyze and interpret the narrative work by addressing one of its elements or dealing with all of them at the same time.. At the end of the semester, these critical essays have been corrected and awarded degrees of merit, and the student obtains his oral activity rate as well as the average of those articles.
The extent of development in the level of listening, speaking, reading, writing and critical thinking as well as self-confidence was noted.
