A doctoral thesis at the University of Basra discussing (Estimating the volume of surface runoff and water load of the Abu Ghar Basin)
A doctoral thesis in the Department of Geography at the College of Education for Human Sciences at the University of Basra discusses (Estimating the volume of surface runoff and water load of the Abu Ghar Basin in southwestern Iraq using RS and GIS techniques)
For the student (Haider Muhammad Hassan Al-Kinani)
The thesis dealt with the hydrological characteristics of the area as it lacks hydrological monitoring stations, and the study used computer geographic techniques that deal with satellite visuals and the digital elevation model in order to analyze it and obtain the necessary data for the study.
The thesis aims to prepare a hydrological model based on the integration of the relationship between the data extracted from the satellite visuals, the digital elevation model, the soil texture and the amount of rain precipitation.
And the thesis concluded, that the study of land cover types and soil texture is an important factor in determining the hydrological response of the soil and the emergence of runoff after rainfall.
recommended thesis
The study recommends establishing a hydrological monitoring station in the study area, concerned with recording water data, which is one of the most important environmental challenges in it. It also suggests the development of the southern Badia basins in general. Because of its great importance in collecting rainwater, by establishing modern artificial reservoirs, taking into account the avoidance of water losses by leakage and evaporation.
