Doctoral thesis in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Basra, discussing (irony in Andalusian prose from the Almoravid era until the fall of Granada).
The thesis dealt with the study of the phenomenon of irony in these literary stages that did not receive an academic study, and the importance of this literary stage due to the social and political transformations that Andalusia went through that had an impact on drawing satirical prose.
The thesis included an introduction and a preface, and three chapters, followed by a conclusion that included the most important results of the study, then sources and references.
The preamble dealt with the theoretical framework in terms of the term, and the definitions of irony were numerous, because this term is developing and developing, it is renewed in its methods. May its proper place be clear in its most comprehensive space, in the hope that the vision will become more mature, and the picture will appear clearer and more complete.
The thesis concluded a number of results, the most important of which is that the definitions that shed light on the term irony did not provide an accurate and comprehensive conception of this term, due to the different orientations of irony, its objectives, and the angle of view of it, and the trends of irony varied in the Andalusian prose texts under study. The goals of irony in Andalusian prose were embodied in four functions: evaluation, evaluation, laughter, and healing. The irony was manifested in the employment of some constructional methods, such as: interrogation, command, and negation, so these methods were consciously employed in their ability to convey meaning, and to influence their ability to elude the true meaning of suggesting a sarcastic meaning related to a specific party.
