The College of Dentistry University of Basrah has organized a scientific lecture about the oral mucosa, it's causes and treatment.
The lecture that was delivered by Assistant. Lecturer Dr. Fatin Latef Khaphi included the definition of oral mucosa: it is an Inflammation or the damage that causes a disorder in the integrity of the oral cavity, especially, in the areas of soft tissues in mouth, which leads to many complications such as affecting the verbal speech, swallowing and excruciating pain.
The lecture aims to mention the most prominent signs of the disease including: redness, congestion, bleeding, ulcerations.
The lecture showed the risk factors of age, sex, decrease salivary secretions, smoking and alcohol.
This disease, is considered as one of the most common complications of the chemical and radiation therapy for cancer patients due to their immunosuppression.
The lecture also pointed out, the most important methods of therapy that are currently used to reduce ulceration and resulting pain severity.
