Topic & Abstract: The dissertation tackles Al-Badaa Water Project and its importance in replenishing the shortage of fresh water through the identification of the hydrological properties of the project and its drinkability as well as the identification of the natural and human factors affecting the project. The study also accounts for the main problems which affected Al-Badaa Water Project and resulted in a decrease in water drainage arriving to Basrah.
Dissertation Outline: The dissertation falls into five chapters. Chapter One investigates the natural and human factors affecting Al-Badaa Water Project. Chapter Two covers the structural properties of Al-Badaa Water Project and the main problems affecting it. Chapter Three tackles the hydrological properties of Al-Gharaf River and Al-Badaa Water Project. Chapter Four deals with the significance of Al-Badaa Water Project in meeting water demand of water projects in Basrah. Chapter Five is dedicated to evaluate the proficiency of Al-Badaa Water Project and its current and future capacities.
Conclusions: The dissertation has come up with the following:
1. The water of Al-Badaa Channel is suitable for human use.
2. There are natural factors which affected the project and leveled up the wastage through evaporation and infiltration.
3. There is a connection between the River Tigris and Al-Gharaf on the hydrological level.
Recommendations: The Study recommends the following:
1. At the same time the drainage capacity is risen up, there should be such further processes as lifting up the absorptive capacity of water distribution network in Basrah.
2. There is a requirement for constructing four large water tanks.
3. The need for constructing giant stations in order to process the sewage, agricultural and industrial water.
4. Imposition of charges for water usage to eliminate water waste.
