The faculty member at Al-Zahra College of Medicine, Dr. Hussein Kateh Abdul-Sada, the representative of University of Basrah, participated in the virtual university leaders conference of the Arab world, held under the auspices of the Association of Arab Universities, headquartered in Jordan, and supported by the Swedish Center for Middle Eastern Studies
The conference, held under the slogan (Towards a unified vision for Arab universities in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals), aims to consolidate the quality and inclusiveness of education for the member universities of the Union, end poverty, protect the planet from pollution, and ensure that people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030
The instructor’s participated by reviewing a working paper on sustainable development related to the experiences of Arab universities, where the paper included a detailed presentation on the program of University of Basrah (A Child’s Smile), which won the first prize in Asia in the British Times classification and projects under implementation such as (Tamkeen),(Reza), (rehabilitation of prisoners), (a conscious ear), (idea) for creativity and engineering solutions, a (quality control) project for ensuring the safety of medicine and food in circulation and to provide advice to the competent authorities, a (food bank) project, (environmental protection) project to unify studies and monitor surveys related to environmental pollution all of which will be implemented later
The conference organizers recommended empowering the younger generations to possess knowledge, enabling researchers to find sustainable solutions to the problems faced by Arab societies, developing the ability to obtain sustainable production and consumption, as well as the necessity of exchanging information and knowledge between official national institutions and international and non-governmental organizations
