A scientific study at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basra, prepared by a research team consisting of Dr. Kamal Al-Din Al-Saad, Dr. Abdul-Bari Abbas and Dr. Rahman Kazem Mohsen, examined the effect of sodium chloride poisoning on the health of Iraqi buffaloes in Basra.
The study, which was published in the Iraqi Journal of Agricultural Sciences classified within Scopus containers, showed the toxic effect of sodium chloride on the health of Iraqi buffaloes in Basra Governorate.
The study included knowing the effect of river water in this governorate, in which the proportion of sodium and chloride salts increases, on the health of local buffaloes, which caused the appearance of various clinical signs on the affected animals, such as nervousness, lack of appetite, lack of milk production, and abortion, and may often end with the death of the affected animal.
The results of the study concluded that drinking water in Basra Governorate has clear and obvious negative effects on farm animals.
