The researchers; Mahir A. Jalal (Polymer Research Centre), Moayed N. Khalaf and Mouayed A. Hussein (Collage of Science) published a scientific research entitled Drag Reduction Assessment of some New Copolymers of 1-hexene and Maleic Anhydride in light Crude Oil, in Petroleum Science and Technology, which is US journal and indexed in Scopus (Q2) and Clarivate analytics. The study aims to evaluate some derivatives of 1-hexene and maleic anhydride copolymers as drag reducing agents in turbulent flow of Basrah crude oil. The study showed that long alkyl branches in copolymer, longer than C14, significantly enhance DRA performance, reduce concentration of DRA additives and reduce the susceptibility of copolymers chains to degradate mechanically under high mechanical shear forces. The DRA assessments at different temperatures were also explored and found that longer branches can impart DRAs-hydrocarbon solubility which positively reflect on copolymers performance as DRAs.
