A research team at the College of Science at University of Basrah, consisting of Dr. Hadi Al-Lami, Dr. Aphrodite Saleh and researcher Maysoon Hussein Zaboun, obtained a patent which enables them to manufacture a nano-biopolymer against cancer cells using polymeric nanoparticles derived from chitosan
The patent included inferring the presence of polymeric nanoparticles and determining their shape and size by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) accompanied by (Image-J) program
The statistical results showed a high qualitative decrease compared to the control samples, in the rates of growth and development of cancer cell lines treated with different effect times, which are (24, 48 and 72) hours of treatment
The patent investigated the effect of the nanopolymer chitosan derivative as a new cationic biopolymer due to its properties in terms of its nanosize and excellent vitro biocompatibility as a treatment against breast cancer cell lines
