A discussion was held at the College of Medicine, University of Basrah, to discuss the research of a group of board students in the Internal Medicine branch, in the presence of the President of Basrah University, Prof. Dr. Saad Shahin Hammadi, and the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Khalil Ismail Al-Hamdi. The discussions included five research papers submitted by board students, each separately
Where the student Hossam Mostafa Lazem research dealt with (Impairment of the diastolic function of the heart among patients with sickle cell anemia treated with hydroxyurea drug), and the research concluded that diastolic dysfunction was detected in 93% of the patients in this study, and there is no significant effect of hydroxyurea
The student Mustafa Moayed Fadel’s research dealt with (the relationship between ECG changes and blood prolactin levels in patients admitted to the CCU cardiopulmonary resuscitation unit). The study focused on the relationship between T-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-segment elevation-related myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) with prolactin levels with complications of myocardial infarction in seven days. The study found that the levels of prolactin in the blood were significantly higher in the first group compared to the second group, and the association was also clear with complications of myocardial infarction such as heart failure
As for the student Sakina Sattar Jabbar’s research, which included (the effect of H. pylori on thyroid function), the aim of this study was to find out whether there is any relationship between H. pylori infection and thyroid function disorders, as the results of this study did not notice any differences between infected patients, but we found that women with H. pylori infection were associated with more abnormal levels of thyroid hormone than males
The student Ali Karim Bohan’s research also dealt with (the barriers of doctors and patients to start treatment with insulin in type 2 diabetes in Basrah; cross-sectional assessment). This study concluded that doctors' barriers mainly centered on patients' attitudes and thoughts toward insulin, and although hypoglycemia and weight gain are known side effects of insulin, the most important barriers affecting a patient's decision to start using insulin were related to its impact on social life and the misconception about the harm of insulin. This study gave necessary recommendations on increasing health education and awareness of citizens towards the use of insulin when indicated by the doctor
The research of the student Zainab Khaled Abdul-Razzaq was also discussed (the results of coronary catheterization in patients with electrical beam cut on the ECG in the state of rest), and the research dealt with the study of the relationship between the results of catheterization of the coronary arteries to indicate the severity and extension of narrowing in the coronary arteries in patients with coronary artery disease and electrical bundle defect, the conclusion was that the rate of coronary artery stenosis is significantly high in patients with electrical bundle interruption of its three types, and it indicates the severity and extent of stenosis in the coronary arteries
