A scientific study was conducted at the College of Science at University of Basrah, prepared by researcher Nisreen Muhammad Abbas and Dr. Muslim Abdul-Rahman, entitled (Study of parasitic etiology of cholecystitis and appendicitis in Basra governorate, Iraq)
The study, which was published in the Turkish Journal of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, classified within Scopus containers Q4, showed that the main causes of appendicitis and cholecystitis are of parasitic origin
The study included examination of tissue sections of samples of the appendix and the gallbladder sac surgically removed and stained with special dyes such as the general dye hematoxylin and eosin
The results of the study concluded that one of the most important causes of appendicitis and cholecystitis is the parasites Isospora and Microsporaidia, as the percentage of these parasites in the appendix was (54%) and (2%), respectively, with a total percentage of 58%, and thus the possibility of treating many cases of inflammation of these two organs without eradicating them
