The College of Science, University of Basrah, organized a scientific lecture on the resistance of bacteria to antibiotics
The lecture, which was presented by the Director of the DNA Research Center at the University of Babylon, Dr. Lubna Abdul-Azim Al-Bayati, aimed to shed light on the most important reasons leading to bacterial resistance to antibiotics, how to avoid them, and the most important alternatives used
The lecture included a discussion of the most important practices that lead to bacterial resistance to antibiotics, the most important of which is the wrong use in treating some viral infections
As well as the random use of it without consulting the specialist doctor or not completing the prescribed dose, which gives the pathogenic bacteria an opportunity to reorganize their metabolic activities and develop mechanisms to resist this antibiotic if it is used again
The lecture also touched on the most important alternatives used, such as plant extracts, nanomaterials, lasers and essential oils
