University of Basrah, in partnership with Siraj Al-Maarifa Company for Training and Development, sponsored by the United Nations World Food Program and supported by the Central Bank of Iraq, held its first conference under the motto (Towards the Integration of Science and Economy for Development)
The conference aimed to activate the role of the business incubator project to activate entrepreneurship in the service of society
The conference included the participation of the colleges of the University of Basrah (veterinary medicine, agriculture, science, administration, economics, computer science and information technology) as a first stage with research and projects submitted by its students that are evaluated by specialized committees to make a feasibility study for the projects to transfer them to the stage of financing and then implementation
The Dean of the College of Agriculture and the representative of the President of Basraa University, Dr. Sajid Al-Nour, stated that the supporting bodies of the business incubator project paid great attention, and its launch from the University of Basras came in line with the vision of the university and its orientations in serving the community, and that the lack of job opportunities for graduate students for consecutive years leads to waste of young energies and this project is considered one of the solutions to this problem by financing students’ projects and creating job opportunities for them
The Director General of the Central Bank of Iraq, Basrah Branch, Qasim Raheef Al-Fahad, said that the Central Bank will support University of Basrah in launching the business incubator project to revive the local market with projects of economic feasibility and good financial returns to support the country's economy. We hope that our graduates will be responsible and earnest to carry out their projects and expand them in the long term
The representative of the World Food Program, Ahmed Albuhameed, indicated that we are nine years away from achieving the sustainable development goals set by the United Nations in order to reach a better world by 2030
One of the most important keys for dealing with the problem of food security and increasing income is the energies of youth, and we at the World Food Program are aware of this and that working in the private sector is one of the effective solutions, and providing such a platform to support graduates is one of the solutions to future challenges and we support it
