PhD Thesis at University of Basrah Examines Effects of Extract on Potato Growth and Yield
A PhD thesis at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, studied the effects of two types of compost and spraying with laurel leaf extract and barley inoculum on the growth and yield of two potato varieties grown in southern Iraq.
The thesis, conducted by researcher Murtada Sarhan Muhalhal, aims to produce potatoes under an organic farming system and to select the best potato variety suitable for growth in the conditions of Basrah province.
The study concluded that the Bureen variety significantly outperformed in all vegetative and productive growth traits, except for field emergence, where the Rivera variety was superior. The Bureen variety also excelled in the nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus content in the leaves, chlorophyll content, and starch percentage in the tubers.
