Doctoral Thesis at University of Basrah Explores Cultivation of Date Palm Floral Inflorescences
A doctoral thesis at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, examined the effect of medium type and growth regulators on the production of embryonic callus and vegetative growth from the callus derived from in vitro cultivation of date palm floral inflorescences.
The thesis, by researcher Mohammed Hadi Taima, aimed to evaluate the efficiency in stimulating vegetative growth from callus resulting from cultivating date palm floral inflorescences.
The thesis concluded that the shortest period for the appearance of embryonic callus and embryos was recorded in the media WPM and MS, complemented with cytokinin, at concentrations of 0 and 0.5 mg/l, respectively, with durations of 36 and 38.2 days. It also showed that the interaction between the type of medium and the growth regulator was significant, with WPM at 2 mg/l concentration yielding outstanding results.
