A Board Research at the University of Basrah Discusses Histological Examinations in Diagnosing Skin Lesions
A board research at the College of Medicine, University of Basrah, discussed histological examinations and auxiliary tests in diagnosing problematic skin lesions.
The research, presented by student Shahed Ismat Mohammed Jawad, aims to discover the relationship between clinical diagnosis and histological diagnosis concerning problematic skin lesions, and to evaluate the usefulness of histological examination and related confirmatory stains in diagnosing problematic dermatological diseases.
The chapters of the thesis included the importance of histological examination in diagnosis in 70.7% of cases through histological examination alone in 64.8% of cases, or using additional diagnostic methods in 5.9% of cases. Immunohistochemical stains and special stains were deemed important in solving problematic cases, especially immunohistochemical stains in cases of mycotic infections and special stains in infectious dermatitis.
