Scientific Study at the University of Basrah Explores Experimental Investigation of Coastal Bridges and Seismic Forces
A scientific study at the University of Basrah, prepared by Dr. Saleh Issa Khassaf, a faculty member in the College of Engineering, investigated the experimental and numerical effects of pile spacing on the dynamic response of coastal bridges exposed to water currents, waves, and seismic forces.
The study, published in the journal "Advances in Bridge Engineering" by Springer within the Scopus and Clarivate repositories, presented a new methodology to enhance the distribution of piles within a concrete pier for a bridge founded on a pile foundation with a nine-pile cap. The research also examined the impact of varying pile spacing on the dynamic behavior of this structure under the influence of seismic forces and water forces, represented by currents and wave action.
