University of Basrah Hosts Poet Moayad Al-Shaybani to Discuss His Cultural Experience
The College of Arts at the University of Basrah hosted the expatriate poet and researcher Moayad Al-Shaybani to discuss his cultural and poetic experience in exile, which lasted forty-five years.
During a lecture he delivered, Al-Shaybani explained that his journey began in 1979 when he left his country for Kuwait, subsequently moving between countries until he settled in the United Arab Emirates.
Al-Shaybani also touched on free thinking and listening to the call of the spirit in relation to knowledge, through the genius of place, a concept many thinkers have worked on, relying on the first element of place, which is the human being.
The session concluded with the reading of poetic texts that reflected his experience with all those concerns and sufferings over the decades and translated the stages of the Iraqi plight during the years of wars, sanctions, and terrorism.
