University of Basrah Held a Seminar on the Short Story Collection "The Black Kingdom" by Mohammed Khudair
The Center for Basrah and Arab Gulf Studies organized a discussion session titled "Between the Present Text and the Absent Text: A Reading in the Short Story Collection 'The Black Kingdom' by Mohammed Qasim Khudair."
The session, presented by Dr. Hala Fathi Kazem Al-Murad, highlighted the concept of the "absent text," which refers to the unspoken elements within the narrative. These elements are implied and embedded in the meaning without direct mention. The exploration of the absent text focuses on delving beyond the present text by invoking symbols, connotations, and indications derived from the existing text to reconstruct and understand it comprehensively.
Mohammed Khudair masterfully incorporated mythical and traditional texts within his stories, enriching them with many implications and reflections inspired by these texts.
