University of Basra organizes a seminar on intellectual property provisions
The Center for Basra and Arab Gulf Studies organized a seminar entitled : (Legal Reading in Iraqi Intellectual Property Provisions).
The seminar, in which Hussein Khaleel Matar lectured, dealt with the definition of the concept of intellectual property in Iraqi law as a set of rights granted to the owners of innovations and intellectual creations from individuals and institutions, which are classified into two types: literary rights given to the personality of the author or writer, and the financial rights granted to the author, which enables him to exploit his work financially.
The episode explained the legal conditions for the protection of works, namely innovation and the tangible existence of the work, as well as highlighting the violations to which intellectual property is exposed in Iraq, perhaps most notably the black market offices to accomplish academic research!
