Master's thesis at University of Basra examines the use of plants to remove heavy elements
A master's thesis at the University of Basra's Faculty of Science investigated the use of chrysanthemum and rosemary plant extracts to remove some heavy elements from the Al-Ashar River in Basra Governorate.
The thesis, submitted by researcher Sajjad Faisal Mari'i, aimed to study the physicochemical characteristics of the Ashar River water at multiple stations and reduce the concentrations of heavy metals in the water by using chrysanthemum and rosemary extracts to get rid of these metals.
The thesis included the use of two types of local plants and testing their efficiency in removing heavy metals from the Ashar River water.
The thesis recommended the use of plants in the field of environmental treatment of water pollution as an effective method and the expansion of the study of local rivers in Basra city because it suffers from a significant deterioration in water quality.
