University of Basrah Organizes a Poetry Morning to Revive Classical Arabic Poetry
The College of Arts at the University of Basrah organized a poetry morning to celebrate classical Arabic poetry with the participation of poets Mohammed Yassin Al-Sharifi and Kadhim Abdullah Al-Lami.
The morning opened with an introduction by Dr. Yaseen Adhab, in which he discussed the challenge in Arabic poetry throughout the ages, reviewing literary evidence from the pre-Islamic era through the different literary eras until the modern era.
The two poets recited various poems, as poet Kadhim Abdullah Al-Lami presented an elegiac poem that represented the martyr's challenge to injustice and tyranny, along with other poems. Meanwhile, poet Mohammed Yassin Al-Sharifi read a poem that represents the challenge of the Arabic language to time, praising the College of Arts as a stronghold of language and literature.
